Wie fühlt sich Demokratie an?
a zine workshop
Co-organized with Mujgan Abdulzade for forum 1848 am Friedhof der Märzgefallenen.
The cemetery is an important historical site connected to the 1848 Revolution. People took to the barricades and fought for their rights, making it a significant place in the history of the origins of democracy in Europe.
We invited participants to explore the cemetery spatially, paying attention to the names on the tombstones, the effigies, and the inscriptions. We provided a zine template and prompted participants with questions about their own experiences of democratic processes.
Using frottage, photography, copies of historical documents and collage, participants responded to these questions in visual and creative ways. At the same time, Forum 1848 staff interviewed them about their personal experiences and understandings of democracy.
